Wed Aug 13, 2008, 9:32 PM
This month is when all my senior friends start to leave for thier respective colleges.
sucks because fully half of my friends seem to be from the graduating class. really no fun.

hopefully i can get ahold of people before everybody heads off.

as for photography on the other hand. i've been editing and finding pictures from my old Seattle excursions. found some decent ones.

enjoy. tell me what you think

Seattle

Sun Jul 6, 2008, 10:38 AM
I'm taking the 12:20 ferry to seattle. i'm heading there with friends who will likely think me taking photography as creepy.

i would invite Achilles along, but he doesnt know this group, and its not meant to be strictly photography.

in anycase, This will be the 1st time i'm going into seattle without somebody who knows what they're doing. i have to make corrections, take good shots, be ballsy enough to shot from the eye, work my ISO/Shutter Speed/White balance on the fly.

i think with Achille's advice on use of the Aperture i should be able to get some good shots this time around.

Key is to be brave enough to move the camera from the hip to the chest and then the eye.

Wish me luck!

Specialised Photography/ The Cliche

Tue Jun 24, 2008, 8:10 PM
In the course of the past few days I've seen that many Deviants seem to specialize in their art.

Its hard for me to call myself a Straight Street Photographer or a Pure Landscape Photographer or A 100% Bird Photographer or (runs out of synonyms for "pure") Macro Magician.

In my photography I seem to favor Nature, Plants, Animals, and Landscapes above other photography.

Its not even that I like this kind Photography more then the others....maybe it just comes easier to me being from being on a forested island with lots of wildlife.

It seems like so much photography is overdone and "cliche"
while anything that isn't is too unheard of to really catch the eye.

Landscape, Macro, Birds, Waterscape, Portrait, Nature, Cars, Plants.

Its all Cliche.

But maybe thats because it works. a cliche is a cliche because people always love it. so long as their mind doesn't dismiss it as a cliche

in a sick, perverse way, Cliches are beautiful

Other Categories such as; Street, Urban & Rural, and Horror & Macabre are simply too different for mainstream people to like and accept.

think of it this way i guess, the minute Street becomes universally loved....

you've got a cliche

because everybody will want to be part of the wave and take street like its going out of style

Do you really want this? sure we want it to be loved, but at the expense of it being overdone?

This same idea goes for Urban & Rural. you can only take so many pictures of farmland or your neighborhood or main street in town.
however people seem to recognize that it isnt done as much. i just browsed the urban/rural gallery and i saw 10 buildings, 6 streets, a few parks and a parade or 2.

not all that exciting, new, inventive, or unique.
it'll be hard to get momentum going for that.

then theres horror and macabre.....
basically i don't like bloody fingers poked by needles or dismembered corpses. humans love unique, but not that unique.

i'll talk about that genre another day.

Basically i've found a few things.....

Cliches are Beautiful (cringe)

Genres that finally get attention become Cliches fast

I'm no Specialized Photographer

Theres a TON of cliches.

OH
and i'm only wondering....i may be wrong.

but Achilles875's "Homeless"

he labeled it street...but because its not candid and the hobo guy was aware shouldn't it not be street.
maybe something more like people genre?
just wondering........
